International Day for the environment

on 5 June is celebrated every year the International Day for the environment, the birth of this day dates back to 1972 when the United Nations Conference on Environment in human in Stockholm decided the birth of UNEP (United Nations Environment Program - http://www.unep.org ). The day is celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide.

"One day is not enough. Are we really to our future, the environment must be remembered every day, every minute, year round, "these are the words of the famous Indian environmentalist Vandana Shiva ( http://www.navdanya.org) , words which obviously must be shared by all, the slogan chosen for this year is "Your Planet Needs You! U.S. to combat climate change ", to emphasize the importance of even small behavior of everyday people in the world.

In Italy, the WWF ( http://www.wwf.it ) created the "Climate Project" which involves the monitoring of greenhouse gases in a lowland forest in Umbria, installed the tower will hear the breath of the forest and therefore know how much CO2 as it absorbs and releases oxygen says Riccardo Valentini of the President Commission on Environmental Change CNR.

Each hectare of forest and 'capable of neutralizing at least 6 tons of CO2 (greenhouse gases, primarily responsible for global warming) in a year, or the emission of low-powered car that travels about 43,000 kilometers, or those determined the average power consumption of four Italian families.
